All Brian James trailers enjoy a reputation for being easy to tow and this remained an important design requirement for the Shifter.
The team was focused on the chassis where strength and tow-ability are defined. By selecting high specification steels for fabrication, the chassis has been made strong and light. The low weight and a new, low chassis height mean that the Shifter is easy to tow and load, as well as providing extra load capacity.
Advanced chassis design also supports the tough phenolic deck along its full length, which will allow heavy items like rollers to be transported without the deck bowing. This extra support extends the life span of the trailer as it prevents distortion and weakening.
As always, safety is a crucial part of overall trailer design; heavy loads need plenty of strong, low tie-down points. It was decided that the traditional deck ring is noisy, difficult and unreliable in the long term, so an innovative solution was created (see photo opposite). It is multiple-hook compatible and incredibly simple, quiet and self cleaning. Another new feature appears in the form of four non-slip steps which also act as tapered pedestrian guards to increase operator and pedestrian safety.

- Spare wheel - Supplied with all CarGo Shifter trailers.
- Strong chassis/body - The one piece chassis body design is durable and strong.
- Protection - Rear lamps, are well protected from damage in steel housings.
- HD mesh ramp - Well supported heavy duty welded mesh ramp provides grip and low angle loading.
- Rope hooks/slots - Multiple attachment hooks & slots along both sides and front for securing loads with ropes.
- Inboard tie-downs - An innovation to make tie-down points available exactly where they are needed.
- Locking head - Integrated lock in cast coupling head. Additional security items available.
- Progressive suspension - Independent suspension offers superior ride characteristics and long-term durability.
- Low chassis - Means low loading angles, plus an inherent stability with a low centre of gravity for heavy loads.
- Heavy Duty bed - HD decking with longitudinal superstructure providing full support to plant equipment such as rollers.
- Gas ram assisted ramp - is operated with two gas springs. Effort required to lift or lower the ramp is minimal.
- Silent lock - The loading ramp is held in place with secure clamp fasteners. Rubber buffers further reduce noise & vibration.

- Ladder rack - Rack incorporates end stops and multiple tie-down points.
- High mesh sides - Removable 0.8m high side mesh extensions, all around.
- Durable tread plate - Aluminium tread plate fitted over standard commercial deck material for real durability.
- Quick stands - Incorporated ramp a pair of substantial support legs push down into place.
- Datatag - Thatcham TQA accredited and provides a 20% discount on Datatag Trailer Insurance premiums.
- Security products - Wheel bar locks, External box locks, Datatag electronic ID transponder.
- Ratchet restraint straps - Heavy duty straps attach to the wheels or provide direct pull.
Special Option
- NEW. Step side - A robust step makes it safe and easy to step from trailer to ground. The non-slip surface provides grip even when wet. Front steps are tapered to protect pedestrians and cyclists from potential contact with the trailer wheels. A bright warning chevron colour scheme improves passive safety around the trailer.
